What is a superbill?
A Superbill is essentially a receipt of the services provided by a healthcare practitioner. You can submit a Superbill from your dietitian to your insurance company to seek reimbursement for nutrition services, if you have out-of-network coverage.
Unlike typical receipts, Superbills require specific information about the nature of the services, like the practitioner's license number, CPT (procedure) codes, and ICD-10 (diagnosis) codes.
Why should I submit a Superbill?
Submitting a Superbill to your insurance may reduce the cost of your nutrition services.
How do I find out if I have out-of-network nutrition coverage?
If you would like to find out if your insurance will reimburse for out-of-network nutrition services, contact your insurance carrier and ask the following questions:
- Do you reimburse for the following CPT codes: 97802, 97803, 98966 and/or 98969? How much do you cover?
- Do you reimburse for ICD-10 code Z71.3 (dietary counseling and surveillance), or is a medical diagnosis required from a physician (for example, E28.2 for polycystic ovarian syndrome or O24.41 for gestational diabetes)?
If a medical diagnosis is required, your physician can fax me a referral at (855) 781-4098.
